If someone moves from Tegernsee to Berlin and then takes a detour to Franconia and more or less accidentally ends up with a beer hit, then this is definitely worth a story.
Gabriel was born on Lake Tegernsee and moved to Berlin for professional reasons. Attracted by the chaotic charm of the capital, he spent a few years there until love took him to Fürth. The Franconian culture and the regional dialect were initially foreign to Gabriel, but he quickly got used to the gruff friendliness and rusticity of his new home. Gabriel made his first friends and on this occasion came across the Fürth district of Atzenhof. For the Berliner by choice, this place name was and still is quite funny, because in the Berlin dialect the word Atze is used synonymously with friend, brother or buddy and appears in countless hip hop songs. It is assumed that the term is derived from the Middle High German "atzen", which translates as something like feeding or eating. The Atzen in the Berlin dialect are therefore those with whom you would share your food and those who are closest to you. When Gabriel came up with the idea of brewing his own beer during the pandemic, the name for his brand was quickly found. Atzengold combines his beloved home of Berlin with the millennia-old Franconian brewing tradition.
The original plan was actually to sell the Franconian brews in Berlin. Gabriel saw his Atzengold in the city's late-night shops before the first bottle had even been filled. For this reason, he chose a beer for his first creation that is not yet very common in the capital. Helles is available on every corner there and in many different versions, but the typical Franconian cellar beer is less well known. The new Fürth resident got to work and developed the perfect recipe in an experimental phase. As a cuckoo brewer, he brews using the brewing system of established breweries and did not have to raise the start-up capital for his own system before he could get started. What he could not foresee, despite all his planning, was the Franconians' thirst for beer: as soon as the first bottles had been filled, the first curious landlords got in touch. Word of Atzengold spread quickly and ensured that Mo from Fürth's Fellas bar joined the company. Today, the duo sells their fine cellar beer throughout the metropolitan region and plans to send the first bottles to Berlin soon to boost sales in the capital.
