The Braustättchen at Hamburg's fish market is one of our partner retailers and a meeting point for beer enthusiasts in the Hanseatic city. Beer aficionado Christian Temme and his team offer their customers a wide range of different brews and share their enthusiasm for beer at numerous events. The Braustättchen hosts parties, tastings, readings, gourmet evenings and seminars on all aspects of barley juice. The next step for Christian Temme was his own brewery - a project that crowns his wealth of experience and passion for beer.
However, Christian was not alone in realizing his dream. Together with Marek Westendorf and Patrick Hartmann, they went looking for a suitable location in 2023. They found what they were looking for in the Hamburg district of Bergedorf: the picturesque Billwerder caught their attention and offered the perfect premises for the project. An old butcher's shop, which had been used to make leather from salmon skin, met the trio's ideas and requirements and became the new home of the brewing project. Thematically, the three are taking up a Hamburg legend: before it was taken over by Holsten and finally closed, the Bill Brewery and its Moravia Pils were an institution in the Elbe city for a long time and even appeared in a German film classic. With the name Bill Brew, Christian, Marek and Patrick honor their city's beer-loving past and keep the memory of the legendary Bill Brewery alive.
The beer from Bill Brew is a skilful mix of Hamburg charm and Franconian brewing craftsmanship. The very first brew from Hamburg's newest brewery was a fine Viennese lager called Hamburger Prater , which was developed by a well-known homebrewer from the Hanseatic city. His idea was implemented in the style of a classic Viennese lager and with the Saaz hop variety in the brewery in Billwerder. The team is currently working on a second brew for their range. The young brewery wants to breathe new life into Hamburg's beer-rich past and enrich the variety of beers in their homeland with a few examples. Because beer is a living cultural asset for Christian and his boys, you could book tours of the brewery before the first beer was released and experience the creation process from scratch. You can feel the enthusiasm and dedication of Christian, Patrick and Marek in every corner of their brewery and taste it too!
