Bira91

India is a country that has rarely been associated with beer. One of the most famous examples of the craft beer scene is named after the place, but India Pale Ale owes its name not to the brewing skills of the Indian population, but to a dark period in history when their homeland was plagued by colonial powers. Beer had been brewed in India for centuries, but the traditional creations differed significantly from European tastes. This was not least due to the ingredients: instead of grain, India used and still uses rice to a large extent. One brewery that has brought Indian brewing into the focus of global attention over the past few years is Bira 91.

From Belgium to India

The young label was founded in 2015. However, the company did not start its first brewing experiments on home soil, but in Belgium. The brewers chose this location because of the raw materials required: grain, yeast and hops are more affordable and available everywhere in Europe. The beer produced in Flanders was sent to India after the brewing process was completed. When the brewery achieved its first successes and its name became established in its home country, they moved across the pond with all their belongings. Due to the refined taste of its beers and their smooth, mild character, Bira 91 quickly blossomed into one of the most popular breweries in its country. Today, the beer is brewed in five different breweries and the company employs more than 600 people. The beers are drunk in 18 countries around the world and have earned Bira 91 the title of India's most awarded brewery.

Environmentally friendly beer that awakens your inner self

The company's recipe for success is based on refreshingly modern beer. The mission of all brews is to awaken the inner self of the beer connoisseur. Bira 91 is designed to awaken your playful, friendly, smart and stubborn side and quench your thirst for beer at the same time. The fast-growing label sponsors sports and cultural events and is also committed to environmental protection. The brewery's goal is to reduce its ecological footprint. Switching to clean energy, saving unnecessary electricity consumption and reducing waste are some of the steps the brewery is taking to achieve this. In addition, Bira 91 wants to reduce its own carbon emissions to zero by 2025. With this plan, the brewery is a pioneer in India and hopes to inspire other companies with its vision.
