Colombia is a country of diversity: Located between the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, Colombia is home to beautiful beaches and picturesque coastal areas as well as a lively and species-rich underwater world. But Colombia has a lot more to offer besides its coasts. The Andes stretch across western Colombia and their steep mountain ridges tower over large regions of the country. The mountainous landscape is home to countless animal and plant species, some of which only thrive in tropical high mountains. Active volcanoes are also part of the local nature's diverse landscape. Dense rainforest and wide rivers cover another part of the country, which is also home to large metropolises. Five areas of the second largest country in South America are UNESCO-recognized biosphere reserves. Colombia plays a role in the world market as an exporter of coffee, gemstones, tropical fruits and other agricultural products; beer is not yet one of the most important export goods. But the country's breweries are working hard to make their homeland's beer known beyond Colombia's borders. One of the most famous breweries is Club Colombia.
The brewery was founded in 1949 under a different name. A short time later, the brewers received international recognition and won a prestigious award for their beer. The streak of success continued and Club Colombia built up a range of tasty, drinkable beers. Sales of the products to the USA began in the early 1960s and marked a real milestone for the young brewery. Little by little, more and more countries were interested in importing the fine Colombian beer and Club Colombia was happy to respond to the requests. Constant awards and honors have accompanied the brewery from its founding to the present day, even though Club Colombia is no longer an independent brewery but has become part of a large beverage company. This change of ownership has not changed the quality or recipes of the brewery.
In addition to good beer, Club Colombia is committed to protecting and preserving their homeland. The brewery is supporting social projects in Colombia in a major initiative. Its focus is on the country's diverse handicrafts. Traditional techniques and guilds are threatened with extinction since handicrafts are no longer passed down from generation to generation as they used to be. The association works under the motto "In search of lost pride" and now supports more than 50 different industries in the country. The artisans supported include cotton spinners, hat makers, ceramicists, goldsmiths, instrument makers, shoemakers, carvers and basket weavers - a colorful mosaic of master craftsmen who enrich Colombia with their art.
