Elch Bräu

Courage is the basis of all great achievements and was also necessary when founding the Elch-Bräus: In times of large breweries and industrially produced beer, opening a small, private brewery is a risk. The risk of failure, however, did not deter the Kugler/Seitz family. Their daring is still paying off today.

Revived brewing tradition since 2007

Brewing has probably been taking place on the site where the Seitz Inn and Elch-Bräu are today for more than 400 years. The first documented mention comes from the late 18th century, but there is evidence that Thuisbrunn had a baker, an inn, and a brewery with a malt house and distillery. The brewery existed until the 20th century, but then its former streak of success ended and the mash paddle was hung up. In 2002, the Kugler family decided to continue the brewing tradition in their hometown and resume brewing in Thuisbrunn. Since then, Georg Kugler and his team have been providing a wide range of hand-crafted beer specialties that not only delight visitors to the inn: wheat beer , pilsner , and the like also score highly in international competition and continue to receive great recognition at awards such as the European Beer Star.

The Fünf-Seidla-Steig®

Beer as a living cultural asset can be experienced on the path between Weißenohe and Thuisbrunn: Along the ten-kilometer route there are five breweries that have joined forces for a joint project. The high density of breweries in the region is a worldwide speciality and an attraction that the hosts of the local breweries wanted to draw attention to. After one or two round table discussions, the brewers from five breweries decided to create a brewery hiking trail. The idyllic landscape with rolling hills, dense forests and lush meadows between Weißenohe and Thuisbrunn was the perfect basis for this project, and the five breweries in between were the icing on the cake. For more than ten years now, you have been able to hike the Fünf-Seidla-Steig® and refresh yourself with brew specialties from five different breweries. There is a stamp card that is stamped by the innkeepers and at the end you can use the full card to purchase the Fünf-Seidla-Steig® mug at a reduced price. Hiking through Franconian Switzerland on a sunny day is a pleasure in itself, but if you are then served the finest beer, the experience becomes a real treat!

Whether you drink the fine beers from Elch-Bräu on the hiking trail or at home — they taste good on every occasion!
