Flötzinger Bräu

In the Upper Bavarian town of Rosenheim, there are less than a handful of breweries that cater to the physical well-being of the almost 65,000 residents. One of these breweries is the Flötzinger Bräu, which has been supplying the people of Rosenheim with the finest beer for almost 500 years. The private brewery is family-run and, with the Flötzinger marquee at the Rosenheim Autumn Festival, makes an important contribution to the culture and life of its home town.

500 years of brewery history

Although the first documented mention of the brewery being granted by Duke Wilhelm IV in 1543, it is assumed that brewing had already taken place in Wiesengasse before then. Because there was a major fire the year before, this can no longer be clearly established today. The brewery operations started in the following decades and the brewery took part in the first Rosenheim Autumn Festival on the Loretowiese in 1861. The Flötzinger family, who gave the brewery its name, had rather moderate success and decided to sell the brewery in 1868. The buyer was Johann Krichbaumer, whose descendants are still at the helm of the company today. At the same time, Rosenheim became a city and offered its citizens 11 breweries. Under the leadership of the Krichbaumer family, the brewery was modernized and expanded, while more and more Rosenheim breweries hung up their mash paddles and closed. The Flötzinger Bräu is still flourishing today and is currently run by Marisa Steegmüller and her father, but her two children are already in the starting blocks to take over the reins.

Creating good things together

One factor that certainly contributes to the success is the family's cohesion. Through tragedies and difficult times, the Steegmüllers have always been a good team and have supported each other. Today, according to the motto "true to the good", they brew a select selection of down-to-earth beers that shine with taste, character and quality. Over the last few centuries, Flötzinger has built up a good reputation that has long since exceeded the borders of Rosenheim. Although the technology differs significantly from that used when the brewery was founded, the ingredients and attention to detail have remained the same: honest craftsmanship, the best raw materials from the region and a passion for the end product run like a common thread through the brewery's history. Beers like Flötzinger Hell are testament to skill and dedication. So that the people of Rosenheim and everyone else can enjoy beer that is always equally good, production is subject to strict quality control.

The Flötzinger Bräu is a lively part of Rosenheim’s city culture
