Günther Bräu

After traditional family breweries were threatened with extinction for a long time because there were no new generations, a change took place some time ago: more and more young people are interested in the brewing trade and are ready to follow in the footsteps of their parents, grandparents and more distant ancestors. In the past, the succession was mainly reserved for the sons of a family, but today the daughters are also at the helm. One of these motivated and beer-loving women is Lorenza Günther, who runs the Günther-Bräu together with her father.

Beer family through and through

The brewery in Burgkunstadt in Upper Franconia was founded by two brothers. Johann and Georg Günther had a local pub and in 1840 began brewing beer for the pub in the town's communal brewery. There used to be communal breweries like this in many places and residents could register there to brew beer for their own needs or business under the supervision of a master brewer. The next generation of the Günther family then decided that they needed their own brewery: demand had steadily increased and they decided to purchase a brewing system and brew beer on their own facility from then on. This decision was made four generations ago. Over this time, the brewery has gone through ups and downs, renovations and modernizations, but the Günthers have maintained their values and high quality standards. After a comprehensive renovation in 2005, the company is also geared towards sustainability. In addition to production that is as environmentally friendly and resource-saving as possible, the family also cares about regionality. Their raw materials are hand-picked and sourced locally as far as possible. As Franconians, they have the full potential: the region's rolling hills are sun-kissed and produce the best grain, the purest water is extracted from the springs and the hop-growing regions of Spalt and Hallertau are just around the corner.

Beer with heart

The beer, which is brewed from the fine ingredients, is subject to the requirements of the Bavarian Purity Law and is therefore made exclusively from hops, malt, yeast and water. Traditional craftsmanship is held in high regard at Günther: the master brewers draw on the wealth of experience of their homeland's centuries-old brewing history. The brewery's range consists of a series of classic Franconian beer creations that score points with their character and down-to-earthness. You won't find any unusual extra ingredients or crazy beer styles here, but Günther Bräu will happily pour you an excellently brewed Pilsner or serve its wonderful dark Franconian country beer, which goes perfectly with hearty dishes.

In the Günther family, everyone pitches in. Team spirit and solidarity are top priorities and are a wonderful basis for the best beer.
