The German word chips comes from English and refers to crispy fried potato slices, which we especially like to snack on in the evening in front of the TV. If you ask for a packet of chips in the United States, you will be given the product you want without any problem, but in Great Britain it is a different matter. The word chips also exists, but it means something different. The British call chips French fries, and the potato slices are called crisps.
The English company John & John specialises in the production of chips, even if they are called crisps in the small factory. Legend has it that the company was founded by two friends. Both are called John, but lead very different lives. One, John, is a trained potato farmer and has swapped his tractor for a cooking pot. He is known throughout the region for his excellent chip recipe and now sells the crispy specialities not only throughout the country but also beyond. Part of his secret recipe are the fine spices that the other, John, discovers on his travels around the world. He is a sailor by profession and travels all over the world to find the most aromatic and best raw materials for his friend's chips. The friends combine their respective specialties and make the best chips in the country.
The irresistible potato snack is made from old potato varieties such as Lady Claire or Lady Rosetta. The tubers come from English soil and are carefully processed. To give them extra flavor and crunch, the potatoes are washed but not peeled. They are cut into thick slices with their skin on and cooked at low temperatures in golden sunflower oil. The result is crispy chips with a wonderfully crunchy consistency. To give them the finishing touch, the potato slices are refined with exotic spices. The finest sea salt from the Middle East is used for the salty classics . The pepper for the variant with a kick comes from India: Pepper grows particularly well on the shores of the Malabar coast and on the mountain range behind it and produces flavorful grains.
Chips don't have a great reputation due to their rather greasy nature, but most of us still can't keep our hands off them. So if you allow yourself a slip-up now and then, we recommend the chips from John & John. They are worth the sin and their fine aroma goes wonderfully with a cold beer!
