Lauterbacher

Like many Bavarian breweries, Lauterbacher also looks back on a long brewing history: The Augsburg brewery was founded in 1651, but boasts a completely different date.

Good wheat for everyone

1889 was a magical year for the brewery, which was already more than 200 years old at the time. After everything began with the brewer Mathias Puecher, the brewery grew and flourished until the 19th century, at the end of which the brewers pulled off a real coup: they brewed the very first wheat beer in Bavarian Swabia. Brewing rights were already strictly regulated at that time and not every brewery could simply make the beer they wanted. The production of wheat beer was only permitted to state breweries, so small, private breweries had to resort to other styles. This meant, among other things, that the fuss about wheat beer had almost evaporated when it was finally made available to all breweries. The initial excitement about the new beer had died down and people were thirsty for the next big hit. This turned out not to be a new style, but a wheat beer from Lauterbacher. The brewery put its own stamp on the wheat beer and gave the slowly forgotten style a tasty renaissance.

The seal of approval from the Lauterbacher compatriot

The news of the good Lauterbach wheat spread like wildfire and made the brewery famous far beyond the borders of Bavarian Swabia. With dedication, brewing skills, passion and the best ingredients, the brewers brought the wheat out of obscurity and made their brewery famous. To this day, the team relies on these principles. Raw materials of the highest quality form the basis for all beer specialties: The water is drawn from the brewery's own deep well, hops and grain grow in the region's sunny fields and the yeast also comes from the brewery. The symbol of taste and quality is the Lauterbacher Landmann: The hearty fellow on the labels goes back to the beer connoisseur and gourmet Hans Dengler. The regular guest in the pub not far from the brewery was known for his fine tongue and high standards. The Bavarian also had a reputation for being hardworking, down-to-earth and close to nature - everything a good beer should be. The Lauterbacher Landmann was appointed guardian of quality and taste and his memory ensures to this day that the beers from Lauterbacher are Bavarian, natural and down-to-earth.
