The history of the Puntigamer brewery goes back to 1838. Beer has been produced in Graz for quite some time: Based on official records, it is assumed that beer was brewed in the city as early as the 1470s. The Puntigam district in particular has always been very busy. A beer garden there was particularly popular and attracted hordes of guests on sunny days. In the 19th century, the restaurant and brewery were in the hands of the Knabl and Hold families. They gave the company a certain degree of professionalism and increased output through clever expansion and the occasional renovation. Less than 100 years later, Puntigamer (then still under a different name) employed 400 people and was one of the largest breweries in the city. Through clever mergers and mergers with other breweries, Puntigamer was able to consolidate and further expand its place at the top. The water is drawn from the Herrgottwies spring, the brewery's own mineral water spring. A large part of the hops used grow in the sun-drenched gardens of Leutschach.
