The Schierling specialty brewery is one of the avant-gardists of German beer culture. This traditional company is the first brewery in Bavaria to specialize in brewing Pils.
The tranquil town of Schierling in the Upper Palatinate was already a hot topic in Napoleon's time: the legendary general defeated the Austrians at the foot of Schierling. And there is a lot going on in this town, which is more than a thousand years old. For example, Bavaria's first official Pils brewery was founded here. At the time the brewery opened, dark, smoky beer was still drunk all over Bavaria. Pils was a fine alternative to these heavyweights, but it had to find its way into Bavarian beer culture first. The Schierling specialty brewery has done a great service and raised the beer from the cradle that would later become the most popular beer in Germany. The Schierling specialty brewery was founded in 1834 and at that time still bore the venerable title of Princely Direct Brewery. It was run by the Thurn and Taxis family and went through several changes of ownership and name until it was finally given the name Schierling specialty brewery and could concentrate fully on brewing the finest beers.
Today, the tradition-conscious brewery not only has excellent pilsner in its range, but also a number of other down-to-earth classics. One of our favorites is Schierlinger Roggen . The beer is advertised with the slogan "A beer like black bread" and is a real traditional beer that was already popular in the 15th century. The Schierling specialty brewery has put a lot of effort and tinkering into reviving an ancient recipe and has been offering Schierlinger Roggen again since the mid-90s.
In Schierling, people celebrate coziness and social gatherings. Traditionally, people meet in the hospitable Schierlinger Braustüberl to philosophize about life over a glass or two of beer. The home-made beer specialties taste wonderful with hearty cuisine and can be enjoyed in the cozy inn or in the beer garden.
