Sweet Water Brewing Company

Water is the basis of all life. This is not exclusively but largely due to the fact that the clear liquid is the main ingredient in beer. Without water there would be no barley juice and that would be absolutely unthinkable. One brewery that combines its love of water with its passion for enjoyable drinks made from water, malt, hops and yeast is the SweetWater Brewing Company from Atlanta.

Beer instead of books

The enthusiasm for crystal-clear rivers and lakes can be seen not only in the name but also in the brewery's logo: a magnificent trout adorns the scroll with the brewery's title. The speckled fish is a marker for the water quality of a body of water and was the first choice for the duo of enthusiastic anglers behind the label. It all began when the two friends were still at university: instead of poring over books, the two preferred to drink beer. After long discussions about how to turn this passion into a career, they came up with the plan to open their own brewery. In 1996 the time had come and construction of the SweetWater Brewery began. The first brew, 420, left the hallowed halls just under a year later and the fun could begin. The team was part of the first major craft beer movement in the United States and rode this wave on the back of hop-filled creations. Eight years after building their first brewery, they outgrew the premises and moved to downtown Atlanta. The brewery's offerings include a varied selection of classic craft beers, as well as some seasonal specialties and limited edition brews.

Celebrations and trout protection

The brewery's first beer was 420 , which later gave its name to one of the brewery's festivals. The 420 Fest was first held in 2005 in Oakhurst Park in Atlanta and has been held every year since then. The event now attracts more than 50,000 visitors a year. Live music, freshly tapped craft beer and a lively atmosphere are real crowd pullers. In addition to good music and a lively atmosphere, the SweetWater team also values nature. As anglers, they rely on clean waters and good water quality and are committed to ensuring this. The joint project with the Chattahoochee Riverkeeper organization and the Waterkeeper Alliance has been in existence for more than ten years and, by joining forces, ensures that America's rivers and lakes continue to be an ideal habitat for trout and other creatures. The brewery supports the work of the water conservation associations financially and uses its reach to raise awareness of the importance of nature conservation.
