Vier Vogel Pils

¿Quieres una cerveza con mucho cariño? That's how you offer friends a beer in Spanish-speaking countries. The eventful brewing career of the guys behind Vier Vogel Pils probably began with a sentence like that. Their Spanish skills can be disputed, but not their fabulous beer.

Craft beer from friends for friends

On a research trip in 2012, four friends not only came across something of scientific interest, but also uncovered a shocking injustice: Colombia may enchant its guests with breathtaking nature, warm people and culinary delights, but it's hard to find a good pilsner. And when you're sitting on your balcony after a hard day's work, sometimes you just need a wonderfully cool glass of pilsner - or at least that's what our four friends, the guys behind Vier Vogel Pils, thought. A happy coincidence was to remedy the situation: the guys met Edgar, an exiled German, who more or less voluntarily and under strict conditions opened the doors of his brewery to them. In order to be allowed to brew their beer in his hallowed halls, the brewer wanted the guys to come up with their own recipe, finance their ingredients out of their own pockets, develop labels and then drink the beer. Or at least find someone who wanted to drink it.

Four birds make pilsner

The beer's strange name comes from a phone call between the friends and their brewer buddy. "What have you birds done to my brewery?" asked a surprised Edgar, and was quite astonished at what the guys pulled out of his kettles. Strictly following the German Purity Law, the researchers brewed an excellent pilsner that not only delighted them and Edgar. From then on, German pilsner was served on Sundays in Colombia. When duty ordered the guys back to Germany, the hobby brewers had to leave their paradise and suddenly had no brewing equipment at their disposal. After numerous attempts with the shared apartment's own washing machine were less successful than desired, the friends fanned out and looked for a new friend. Brauhaus Hartmannsdorf GmbH turned out to be the perfect partner and has been brewing the fantastic Vier Vogel Pilsner for our four favorite birds ever since. In addition to the Pils, which is more or less considered to be Colombia's best legal export, the Dresden-based company also has a cold-hopped Radler in its portfolio.
Dry throat? Don't worry, these birds are not threatened with extinction.
