Bamberger Bierothek GmbH and master brewer David Hertl are extending the franchise relationship through Bierothek® Bamberg for a further six years until 2026. One of the longest partnerships in the German craft beer scene is thus further intensified and will be continued early.
Master brewer David Hertl, known for his crazy beer creations and marketing talent, and beer sommelier Christian Klemenz's Bierothek GmbH are extending their collaboration until 2026. The young master brewer from Schlüsselfeld and the young entrepreneur from Bamberg met during their joint training to become beer sommeliers January 2014. At this time, Hertl had already produced and marketed its first beers under its own name, but had not yet fully become self-employed. “When I rented the property for our first Bierothek® branch in Bamberg a few months after we qualified as a beer sommelier , I offered David to become an employed store manager there,” said Klemenz about the beginnings of the Bierothek®. “For me, it was the start of self-employment because on the one hand I had a fixed income, but on the other hand I also had the freedom to set up a brewery at home,” explains Hertl, whose own brewery began at that time.
Around two years after the launch of the Bierothek® Bamberg, Hertl took over the branch from Klemenz in the summer of 2016 as an independent franchisee and from then on ran it under his own responsibility. Since its inception, the Bierothek® Bamberg has not only been one of the oldest specialty beer stores in Germany, but has now also become a firmly established player in the diverse Bamberg beer landscape. “I am very pleased that we were able to extend the almost ancient partnership with David for another six years early on in craft beer times,” says Bierothek® founder Christian Klemenz, expressing his joy about the early contract extension.
