Many of you are already familiar with the master brewer editions from Camba Bavaria: the brewery gives its brewers free rein at regular intervals and a chosen one among them is allowed to create their own brew as part of the master brewer edition. These beers are not bound by any convention or regulation, the gentleman or lady at the kettle can let their imagination run wild and make exactly the beer they feel like having. Very different specimens have already been created.
The master brewer edition number 52 was created by Andre Biller and is a top-fermented brut IPA that is brewed with a number of special ingredients. For the Champagne course, the master brewer used a handful of different malts and added the Citra and Crystal hop varieties to them. He gave his brew the final touch with a fine champagne yeast, which complements the dry character of the hop varieties and conjures up an elegant acidity in the beer.
In the glass, the fruity ale is a little more colorful than conventional champagne: the beer shines in warm honey gold and is crowned with a hand’s breadth of airy, blossom-white foam. The pleasure profile is made up of dry and subtly sour notes and plays white grapes, grapefruit, herbs and a touch of natural yoghurt.
