Although all Krug-Bräu beers are very popular with national and international customers, there is one clear crowd favorite in the range: the fine dark lager makes up almost 80% of the total output and is therefore an absolute bestseller.
This beer specialty owes its great success to a special mashing process with which different types of malt are woven together into a heavenly composition. The result is a flavor profile that strikes a skilful balance between soft sweetness and roasted bitterness, while flattering the palate with a velvety mouthfeel. In the glass, the favorite beer shows itself in a coppery shimmering chestnut brown. An ivory-colored crown of airy foam is enthroned on the clear body and exudes an enchanting scent of roasted malt, oven-fresh bread, cocoa and currant jam. The first taste is full-bodied and envelops the palate in an aromatic cloud of caramel, spicy yeast, roasted hazelnuts and toasted grain. Delicately melting chocolate joins in and gives the beer a luxurious quality. A touch of fruit provides sweetness and at the same time underscores the fine acidity of the roasted aromas with elegant fruitiness. A harmonious bitterness brings the aromas together and rounds off the beer enjoyment with a crisp finish.
