According to its own information, the Bolten brewery is Germany’s oldest Altbier brewery. With a brewery history spanning more than 750 years, we do not doubt the plausibility of this statement. From the very beginning, Altbier was the focus of daily work at the Kraushof in Korschenbroich and continues to be so to this day. Bolten’s Classic Alt is brewed using a recipe passed down from generation to generation and is the beer that most closely resembles the brews from the brewery’s medieval beginnings. Unlike many competitors, Bolten does not use dyes to achieve the deep brown tone of a classic alto. Instead, a sophisticated mixture of different special malts is used. The malty mix is complemented with two types of hops, which balance the robust basic character and round off the tasty sweetness of the grain with a touch of freshness and a subtle bitterness. Our own yeast strains are responsible for the mild 4.9% alcohol content.
Boltens Alt is a traditional representative of its kind, which was catapulted into the present through careful hopping. Thanks to its diverse, complex and harmonious taste, the classic has been awarded in renowned competitions and is also popular outside of Germany’s typical Altbier regions.
