The Weisse Taube is known among Bambergers as one of the city’s former breweries. Bamberg looks back on a wealth of breweries and still has a stable number of city-owned breweries today. The historic beer was revived in honor of the Weisse Taube by the Rittmayer brewery in collaboration with the Bierothek®.
The Weisse Taube in Franconia’s beer paradise has a very special history: At the beginning of the 19th century, the Weisse Taube was the largest brewery in Bamberg and known for its excellent wheat beer. In 1917 the brewery restaurant had to close and the building was converted into a Jewish clubhouse. The building was later used by the National Socialists in a grotesquely opposite function as a collection point for deportations. Although the brewery inn had long since ceased to exist at this point, the historical significance of the Weisse Taube cannot be ignored. In our magazine article you will find more information about the stories of the new old beer.
The taste of the beer is based on traditional reports about the historic Weisse Taube. The old recipe was reconstructed with sensitivity and care. And the effort was worth it: the beer smells wonderfully of banana, pepper and coriander before the soft, round body spreads on the tongue. The rich carbon dioxide makes the stately foam head dance and gives the beer a fine, creamy mouthfeel.
The Weisse Taube is spicy and tasty - a classic German wheat beer.
