Regionality is a trend worth supporting that has become more and more popular in recent years. It ensures that products do not have to undergo unnecessarily long transport routes and that the people in a region receive support from their fellow human beings. A brewery that places great value on regionality is Vulkan. However, they not only source their raw materials from the immediate surroundings and employ people who live nearby, they also make the most of the natural conditions. The Vulkan Brewery has the deepest beer cellar in the world. This space was formed by a volcanic eruption more than 13,000 years ago and is now the ideal place to allow brewed brews to mature in peace and with perfect storage conditions.
A beer that benefited from the lager cellar and was made from Eifel barley from regional organic farming is the Vulkan Bio Dunkel. The chestnut-brown brew with a coppery shimmer and ivory-colored head is wonderfully malty and brings the soft sweetness of gently roasted grain to the tongue. Its flavor profile is made up of roasted aromas, caramel notes, hints of smoke, coffee and delicately melting chocolate. The cherry on the cake is the creamy, grippy mouthfeel and the fine roasted bitterness, which harmoniously balances the powerful sweetness.
The dark lager has 5.1% alcohol content and a mild 5 units of bitterness.
