Die-hard craft beer fans may find BrewDog’s "exciting addition" label for their new pilsner euphemistic, but unlike many industrially produced pilsners, their version is fresh, lively and wonderfully hoppy. In the jungle of exotic craft beer creations, the classic Pilsner often appears pale and unspectacular. Because the brewers of Pils cannot hide behind unconventional ingredients, crazy flavor pairings and ultra-modern techniques, the veteran is considered a real challenge for the men and women behind the brewing kettles. A good Pilsner requires a high level of expertise and skill.
With their version, BrewDog proves that they have enough of both and presents us with a successful reinterpretation of the Czech specialty.
The naturally cloudy brew is brewed in the brewery’s Berlin branch and flows into the glass in typical gold. A small cap of white foam crowns the beer. BrewDogs Pils delivers a good balance of robust, sweet grain and grassy hops. Its character is dry in nature and is rounded off by a harmonious bitterness. The fresh, tart beer is the perfect companion to light, Mediterranean cuisine. We like to eat this with a fish stewed in white wine and shallots with white meat, dill boiled potatoes, bacon beans and a creamy horseradish sauce. Fine!
