If you hear the name Garage IPA and think of homebrew from your own garage with mixed-up brewing utensils and brewing products of dubious quality, you're far mistaken. This Garage IPA is from the Espiga brewery in Catalonia and is experimental in the best sense of the word.
The Garage IPA delights us as soon as we pour it: a complete bouquet of floral fruit notes emerges from the creamy, white foam. A complex floral bouquet of passion fruit, lime zest and green plums meets spicy notes of resinous pine needles and freshly roasted coffee beans on the nose. The scent alone reveals that this is not your everyday IPA. With the joy of experimentation and a truckload of expertise, the brewers at Espiga have conjured up a beer that not only smells unearthly good, but tastes great too.
The taste of the Garage IPA is an impressive continuation of the stunning smell. The fruits are accompanied by the exotic aroma of fresh guava, and a mild malt sweetness adds a hint of toffee. This clever combination of fruity and roasted notes makes the Garage IPA a real highlight. In the finish, a soft bitterness rounds off the taste composition and leaves us excited and thirsty for the next bottle.
