Brauerei Fässla

Like many Bamberg breweries, the Fässla brewery can look back on an eventful, centuries-long brewing tradition. Good Bamberg beer was brewed here as early as 1649. Like the Schlenkerla, the Fässla brewery, which the people of Bamberg simply call “Fässla”, is an institution in the Franconian cathedral and beer city.

Through tradition to success

The house that houses the Fässla brewery is much older than the brewery itself. Records of it date back to the 14th century, when it was given as a fief to Conrad and Kunigunde Kauffmann in 1398 in exchange for a whole pound of money. Numerous changes of ownership followed, but one thing remained the same: the excellent quality and good taste of the beers. And the dwarf in the coat of arms: The house coat of arms has always been adorned with a small dwarf with a red cap and long beard, tirelessly rolling a barrel with a mischievous expression on his face. The dwarf and the Fässla stand for tradition and real brewing art: To this day, the beer is brewed in the Fässla according to the rules of traditional, artisanal brewing. The Bavarian Purity Law is observed with great care and pride. Tradition is a must, as can be seen in the rustically furnished inn with a typical Franconian bar and guest rooms. But it's not just the people of Bamberg who like to drink a Zwergla ; the good beer from the Fässla brewery is now known and popular far beyond the borders of the cathedral city.

A Bamberg veteran

The Fässla is as much a part of Bamberg as the cathedral and the good beer. At any time of the day you can find real Bamberg residents at the solid wooden tables in the bar or in the Schwemme, drinking their beer and exchanging the latest news with friends, acquaintances and neighbours. Meetings, eating and drinking are regular events at the regulars' table - this is also a tradition here. The Fässla is a meeting place for young and old, a place where hipsters and long-established Bamberg residents rub shoulders and a magnet for anyone who enjoys good beer in a down-to-earth, charming atmosphere. If you're lucky, you might even get to see the house's mascot, the red-capped dwarf.

But you'll probably have to have a beer or two beforehand.
