The island state of Malta has been inhabited for thousands of years and looks back on an incomparably eventful history. People from all over the world have shaped the culture of the republic and turned the small country into a true melting pot of art, crafts, cuisine, language and religion. Wine plays a major role on the island, partly because there are some endemic grape varieties. In addition to the protected Maltese wines, there is also a small local beer scene. The country's first craft brewery was Lord Chambray, a young team that decided to set up its own brewery in 2014 and has since made a significant contribution to Malta's growing beer market.
The brewery's home is the island of Gozo. The D'Imperio family visited the place in the 90s and fell head over heels in love with the wild, rugged landscape, the millennia-old culture and the lively everyday life. A move was unavoidable and after the family had arrived, made friends and built up a local network, the idea of their own brewery was born. In 2014 the time had come: Lord Chambray opened its doors. The main focus of the brewery is to supply the Maltese population: Samuele and his team are proud and passionate about supplying their compatriots with the best beer. It was a stroke of luck that we got our hands on a few cases of their beers. The brewers are inspired by the breathtaking nature that surrounds them. In addition to Malta's diverse fauna and flora, the brewers are also inspired by their multicultural community, the cohesion of their compatriots and the pursuit of a more conscious life. All of these factors go into the beer, as do hand-picked ingredients of the highest quality. Only excellent raw materials can produce beer with a special character. The beer from Lord Chambray is intended to be an everyday companion for the people of Malta and the world, inspiring them to adventure and community.
The key to all of their actions and the greatest driving force is a great passion for good beer. This even goes so far that the brewers at Lord Chambray sometimes pick some of their ingredients by hand. The selection of the finest raw materials often includes plants that grow on the island. For the greatest possible transparency and quality control, the brewers may do the work themselves. This dedication also applies to the brewing process, of course: every single recipe is changed and improved until it is perfect and is then brewed with care.
We were able to secure some copies of Lord Chambray and are excited to hear how you like them!
