There are brewery names that are really difficult to pronounce. We are thinking here of the capital brewery BRLO , Moersleutel or the team from the Maryensztadt Craft Brewery . The Danish brewery Tuborg does not belong in this category, but its name still has an interesting history.
It all began with a very special place. Where the brewery is today, there used to be a small pub. The landlord and founder was Jonas Thues. His pub was little more than a cobbled-together tin shack, but the people of his town still liked to meet there. The atmosphere was always good, the beer flowed freely, and nobody was bothered by the wind whistling through every crack. Because Jonas Stube soon achieved something like cult status, people nicknamed his pub Thues Borg, which can be roughly translated as Thues castle or palace. There was a touch of irony in the naming process, but the title stuck and over time changed from Thues Borg to the shorter Tuborg. The actual brewery was founded on the same site in 1873. The forefather of the brewery was Philip W. Heyman, who not only had a cool last name, but also a lot of ideas, enthusiasm, and entrepreneurial spirit. The entrepreneur was known for his sparkling energy and lived by the motto “Standing still is falling behind”, which would later become the guiding principle of his brewery.
The brewery's home has always been the harbor. This special place is the starting point for adventures, the home anchor for sea travelers and the gateway to the world - perfect for an up-and-coming company! From the coast of Denmark, Tuborg conquered distant lands and built up a trading network that today has more than 72 partners all over the world. In addition to producing the finest beers, Tuborg cares above all about its fellow human beings. The brewery founded the Tuborg Foundation back in 1931 to help people fulfill their dreams. Music is the key here, but the organization also supports other good causes. Since its founding, the brewery has donated 30% of its dividends to the foundation every year, enabling it to support an incredible 15,500 projects. In addition to a major music festival, the brewery sponsors a support program that makes it easier for young musicians to start their business and provides them with mentors. Beer brings people together, beer moves people and makes them happy - the Tuborg team proves this every day.
