The 6th edition of the Beer Sommelier World Championship will take place on September 27th, 2019 in Rimini, Italy. 80 qualified beer sommeliers from 18 different nations are taking part in this year's 6th edition of the World Cup. One of the best is the beer sommelier and Bierothek® beer advisor from the Bierothek® Stuttgart Marco Liebig.
Marco, who only qualified as a beer sommelier in July 2018, held his nerve during the preliminary round of the German Beer Sommelier Championship on October 13th and ultimately qualified for the final round, which was organized by Doemens exactly two months later at the BrauBeviale 2018. Here he and 14 others also bought the coveted ticket for the upcoming world championship of beer sommeliers in Rimini. Since the final of the German Championship, Marco has been preparing diligently and meticulously for the upcoming World Cup.
The preliminary rounds of the World Beer Sommelier Championships begin behind closed doors on September 27th. at 9:00 clock. Here participants have to undergo a multiple choice test for three hours as well as two practical tasting tests. The best will then move on to the semi-finals at 2.30 p.m. Here the wheat is separated from the chaff in a knockout competition. In the following public finale, the qualified beer sommeliers will present themselves to an expert jury at 4 p.m. Here they have to demonstrate their beer knowledge and presentation skills. Whoever is ahead here and has scored points with their knowledge and skills can call themselves World Cup winners of beer sommeliers for the next two years.
With Sebastian Priller (2011), Oliver Wesseloh (2013) and Stephan Hillbrandt (2017), three beer sommeliers from the German ranks have already brought victory to the Federal Republic.
We wish all German participants, but especially our beer sommelier and Bierothek® beer advisor Marco Liebig, much success and wish him victory!
