Six questions for store manager Max Zellmer

Bierothek® Magazine: Which beer is your favorite?

Max: "Anyone who's spent a while thinking about the topic knows that there isn't one favorite beer. It depends on the situation, the company, the weather, and so on... but overall, I'm always up for a decent IPA!"

Bierothek® Magazine: Which is the most unusual beer in the Bierothek® Dortmund?

Max: "Here, too, there's a lot of variation, of course. In fact, barrel-aged beers are always a highlight due to their limited availability, for example, the Islay whisky-barrel-aged Imperial Stout from Emelisse in the Netherlands."

Bierothek® Magazine: Which beer do you recommend for craft beer newbies?

Max: "I usually start with something close to what most people would easily recognize as beer. The "Ernst" from Flaschenbierfreunde in Dortmund is perfect, or a mild pale ale like the "Entdeckung" from Kuehn Kunz Rosen."

Bierothek® Magazine: What was your first beer?

Max: "That must have been on vacation in the Sauerland. The very popular Schützenfest there was always sponsored by the local Westheimer Brewery. Well, as always, you end up sipping it at some point :D"

Bierothek® Magazine: How and when did you get interested in beer?

Max: "At the liquor store, I've always chosen the beer I didn't know yet. But my 2011 vacation in Canada really opened my eyes. When I entered the beer store there, I was pretty stunned. Back home, I did some research and immediately tried pioneers like Crew Ale and Hopfenstopfer. And you can guess what happened next."

Bierothek® Magazine: What does it mean to you to be a store manager at Bierothek®?

Max: "The Bierothek® opens up completely new possibilities for showing people the enthusiasm for good and exceptional beer. The longer I do this job, the more important it becomes to me to show more beer drinkers (and those who don't even know they are beer drinkers yet) that everyone can find a beer they enjoy!"
