Beer kegs are a phenomenon that is largely a thing of the past. Of course, the beer is still delivered in the barrel in most pubs, but hardly anyone still buys their beer in the barrel privately. This used to be much more common, which was mainly due to the fact that only a few breweries filled their products in bottles or even cans. The wooden barrel was the means of transport of choice and ensured that you could tap your own beer at home. In Bavaria, the first bottled beer was sold at the end of the eighteenth century.
The Leikeim brewery has come up with a homage to the glorious time of the beer keg: their latest creation comes to you in what is probably the handiest keg in the world. The so-called Handfass® looks like a miniature wooden barrel and offers the noble drop the optimal storage conditions. Grains run through the wood look and two stylized barrel hoops ensure the typical look. You don’t need any tools to tap the Handfass® and you can take it with you anywhere thanks to its manageable capacity of 0.33 litres. In the barrel there is a Franconian light beer with soft malt, delicate hops and a gentle character.
Haters will say the Handfass® is just a fancy titled can, but we think the idea is brilliant.
