In the contemporary beer scene, brewers strive to please their customers with the most sophisticated and flavorful beers. Directly behind this is the desire for recognition among colleagues and experts. In order to compete with each other and to find the best creations, brewers, sommeliers and food experts have created competitions. In these events, brewers compete against each other on a national and international level and select the best beers in a wide variety of categories. The World Beer Cup, for example, is a global competition that takes place every year and selects the finest beers in the world in a grandiose spectacle.
The Störtebeker Brauquartier has already received several awards in this prestigious competition. In 2014, for example: their popular rye wheat beer won the gold medal in the “Best Dark Wheat Beer” category.
The tasty wheat beer is made with an aromatic trio of wheat, barley and rye malt. Both the grain and the hops come from controlled organic farming and become a real specialty under the skilful hands of the brewers. Störtebeker's version of dark wheat flows into the glass in an iridescent copper red and is adorned with creamy, ivory-colored foam. The taste scores with a composition of banana, cloves, caramel and spicy yeast. A surprising bouquet of chocolate notes, vanilla and candied red fruits gives the rye-wheat that certain extra.
