The wheat beer is a stunner in itself: A beguiling aroma of freshly baked yeast plait, brown mottled ripe bananas and Christmassy cloves meets a wonderfully creamy mouthfeel and a strong taste of grain, banana, warm spices and yeast. However, some brewers take wheat beer to the extreme by making a wheat beer out of it.
A particularly tasty and harmonious Weizenbock comes from the tranquil village of Mönchsambach. The Zehnedner brewery has been brewing wonderful beer here for almost a century and has long since supplied it not only to the Franconians. One of her most popular creations is her Weizen-Bock. The down-to-earth strong beer brings a whopping 7.0% alcohol content into the glass and shows itself there in a grain gold streaked with yeast veils. The scent of freshly baked banana bread rises from the stately crown and unites with cloves and yeast. Hints of grassy hops, herbs, vanilla and white pepper give the beer that certain extra and make you look forward to the first drink. The first sip is a hit: notes of yeast dough rising in the sun, cereals and sweet banana ensnare the palate. Clove, citrus zest, woody herbal notes and grass gradually join in. In addition to the soft sweetness, the Mönchsambacher Weizen-Bock presents an elegant acidity and a harmonious bitterness.
A masterful bock beer!
