The Wiethaler brewery's wide range includes not only down-to-earth, Franconian classics such as their light bock or dark country beer , but also unusual beer specialties such as their pale ale.
The craft beer revolution has brought new, creative and hop-intensive beers to Germany and the world. Some of these beer styles are new, others are reimagined classics that had been forgotten. Pale Ale is one of the beers that has experienced a renaissance thanks to the craft beer movement. Pale Ale has its origins in England in the 19th century. Back then it was brewed to sweeten sailors' long journeys across the ocean. The high hop content made the beer durable and ensured a continuous supply of beer from Great Britain to as far away as India. Today, beer no longer has to last as long, but we appreciate pale ale as a hoppy flavor bomb.
The Pale Ale Hoptimum from Wiethaler presents itself in the sunny gold of October leaves and is crowned by a fine-pored, stately foam. A scent rises from the white fluff that immediately transports you to the long, green rows of a hop field. The unmistakable scent of ripe, golden hops mixes on the nose with a hint of citrus and soft caramel to create a tempting combination. When drunk, Hoptimum is, as expected, bitter. After the first impression, a hoppy fruitiness joins the bitterness. Only in the finish does the malt present itself in the form of a soft, creamy caramel note.
