The most popular and best-known beer style in and around Düsseldorf is Alt. There is debate about the origin of the name. Some derive the alt quite literally from the traditional meaning of the word and are convinced that the alt refers to the centuries-old tradition of the specialty. A traditional brewing piece, in principle. Others believe that the alt comes from the Latin “altus”. Altus can be translated as high or above and in this theory is interpreted as a reference to top-fermented brewing. Beer connoisseurs probably don’t care about the truth of either theory, as long as the beer tastes good. The people of Düsseldorf affectionately refer to the old as eel in their dialect, thus nullifying any theory anyway.
A classic Altbier that should sweeten the discussion about the origins of names and also tastes pretty delicious in all other contexts is the Schlösser Alt. The traditional Altbier brewery looks back on a wealth of experience of more than 150 years and brews an Alt that is of outstanding quality and excellent Taste is convincing.
The Schlösser Alt is a fawn-brown brew with an impressive head of foam. Its taste is made up of soft grain notes, earthy hop bitterness, delicately melting caramel and delicate roasted aromas.
And with that: cheers! Whether ever Jesondheet!
