There is a momentous invention behind this beer: In order to get the maximum amount of hops into the beer, the resourceful brewers came up with the hop torpedo. This device is used to dry-hop the beer and flavor it with a truckload of hops.
The idea for the Hop Torpedo, like so many great inventions, came about while drinking beer. People thought about techniques and options that could significantly increase the hop content without increasing the bitterness too much. People puzzled and discussed until a usable drawing was created on a napkin. Based on this expert initial sketch, the Hop Torpedo was developed and revolutionized the technology of dry hopping. The beer of the same name is an Extra IPA and honors the newly invented device with hoppy excellence.
Two types of malt mildly balance out the dominance of the three hop varieties Magnum, Crystal and Citra. The result is a sophisticated IPA with powerful hops.
Torpedo flows into the glass in a clear, coppery amber tone and forms a slightly tinted head of foam. The medium-weight beer has a creamy, pearly carbonation and exudes a hoppy scent of green herbs, freshly mown grass, exotic lemongrass and juicy citrus fruits. Hop bomb! The initial taste confirms this impression: the hops don’t hesitate for long, but present themselves in all their glory. Crisply bitter, citrusy and hop-green.
