Grand Cru from Rodenbach is a very special Belgian beer specialty. Like many beers from Belgium, Grand Cru is a blend of two different beers. The basis is a Belgian ale that is used in two different stages: A beer that has matured for two years in wooden barrels is added to the fresh young beer. The result is a complex, multi-layered beer that delights us with its fantastic ruby red color and a heavenly depth of flavor.
Grand Cru presents itself in a burgundy red color with ruby red reflections. The wonderfully red beer is naturally cloudy and is crowned by a delicate veil of beige foam. A complex scent rises from the fleeting head of foam: ripe, dark fruit mixes in the nose with the fine acidity of fresh sour cherries. Notes of vanilla, cognac and oak indicate barrel aging. The tempting scent tempts you to take the first sip, which reveals an exceptional beer. Intensely sour and with exuberant fruit aromas, Grand Cru surprises the palate. Notes of ripe cherries, full-bodied plums and juicy grapes take over and push the dominant acidity into the background. The malt adds a note of freshly baked bread, while the oak barrel gives the beer a complex variety of vanilla, wood and liquor. The finish is pleasantly sweet and fruity.
