Scotland and the Caribbean are two extremely different places on the map. But that doesn’t mean that the two can’t be brought together: The Scottish brewery Innis & Gunn has made it its mission to combine the cuisine of its homeland with that of the Caribbean. Their choice is of course a beer and what brew could better represent Scotland than a Scottish Red Ale?
The Caribbean only comes into play after the actual brewing process has been completed. The finished beer is filled into wooden barrels for further maturation, which previously housed the finest Caribbean rum and still contain a lot of aroma. This strong note is transferred to the beer during storage and enriches the natural range of the red ale with woody spice, exotic vanilla notes and the unique taste of fine rum.
The creation is called Caribbean Rum Casket and is presented in a warm copper red in the glass. The taste is made up of delicately melting chocolate notes, fruits preserved in rum, vanilla and wood. If you want to add even more Caribbean flavor to the Scottish specialty, you should serve jerk chicken, grilled pork, Cuban sandwiches or seafood.
