Spaghetti western is a term that probably doesn’t raise anything more than a raised eyebrow in the younger generation. Everyone else is transported back to the glorious times of the Spaghetti Western with this word: Great film sets, tough guys on fast horses, relentless duels and flying bullets. And even if the era of Italian western films came to an end in the 1970s, the genre has countless followers to this day and contemporary directors are stylistically inspired by it.
The brewers of the Italian brewery BrewFist also found inspiration in the classic films. They dedicated a beer of the same name to the Spaghetti Western, which the one-armed bandit and his cronies would also have liked. Spaghetti Western is an Imperial Chocolate Coffee Stout with 11.1% alcohol. The strong beer is stored in oak barrels for a period of six months and matures into a full-bodied, flavor-intensive and complex beer specialty during this time.
In addition to a whole range of different malts, the brewers use cocoa chips and coffee beans to intensify the flavor. The result of the elaborate brewing and storage process is a deep black, opaque beer with a hazelnut-brown veil and a surprisingly light-footed body. Soft notes of freshly brewed coffee, delicately melting chocolate and ripe heart cherries lie on the tongue and tickle the taste buds with dry sweetness and a wine-like acidity.
