Baltic Freak is an unusual porter that was created in cooperation with the Polish brewery AleBrowar. BrewFist and her friends from Wrocław have come up with a particularly fine Baltic Porter that revolves around the star plum. The resourceful brewers have created a world of flavors that wonderfully complements the soft sweetness and subtle acidity of the purple autumn fruit. A whole army of hand-picked malts caresses the plum with soft caramel and sugar notes, while the hops add fruit aromas and a subtle bitterness.
The Baltic plum porter flows into the glass in the darkest shade of mahogany and shimmers in a magnificent ruby red when the light falls. On top of the opaque beer is a crown of dense-pored, hazelnut-brown foam, which smells seductively of caramelized nuts, earthy vanilla and freshly baked plum cake. The initial taste reveals a voluminous body with soft, sparkling carbon dioxide and a velvety mouthfeel. The sweet aroma of homemade plum jam is accompanied by a number of harmonious notes: Creamy caramel, brown sugar, dark grapes, white coffee, cocoa and vanilla caress the palate and support the plum. A small hop bitterness creeps into the middle section and ends the beer enjoyment with a finish that is reminiscent of fine black tea in taste. Full-bodied bitter and very aromatic.
The beer is called Baltic Freak, but you could also call it Baltic Beauty or Baltic Delight because of its tasty aroma.
