A particularly fine drop in the colorful assortment of the Hofstetten brewery is their G’froren’s. The delicious Iced IPA falls into the Eisbock category and is made using a very special technique. First, a fine, top-fermented bock is brewed. After completion of the brewing process and a five-week maturation, the beer is frozen: This process reduces the water content in the beer and both the alcohol content and the aroma intensity are concentrated. But the Austrian brewers go one step further and then stuff the beer with an extra portion of hops. Dry hopping, which lasts several weeks, allows every little taste nuance of the Australian aroma hop Vic Secret to get into the beer and gives it its diverse hop character.
The finished Iced IPA presents itself in the copper-red shimmering color of spicy blossom honey and is crowned with a decent amount of ivory-colored foam. Scent and taste are characterized by a potpourri of pine resin, juicy pineapple and rose petals. The strong 11.0% alcohol content is cleverly integrated into the taste profile and caresses body and soul when drinking.
The hopped Iced India Pale Ale is a fine drop and differs from the usual Eisbocks in its beautiful hop intensity, the fresh fruit notes and the flowery note.
