Honey is an extremely popular spread made by bees. In order to produce the liquid gold, the hard-working insects collect nectar from various flowers. They fly miles to find enough material to feed their colleagues. The sugar juice from the flower is carried into the beehive and, after being processed professionally, stored in honeycomb storage cells. To harvest the honey, the beekeeper puts the wooden frames with the filled combs in a centrifuge and opens the wax seal. The machine then throws the honey out of the combs. Some beekeepers also sell the sweet delicacy without being centrifuged: the so-called comb or honey combs remain in the wax combs.
All sorts of delicacies can be made from the honey: Honey bread with butter is particularly popular with children, the same applies to honey cakes, but the honey is also suitable for sweetening salad dressings or tea, for flavoring meat or as a substitute for sugar. Exclusively for adults are mead and beer with honey .
A beery honey favorite, for example, comes from the Hofstettner brewery: Their strong honey bock focuses on the liquid gold and combines it with soft malt notes, tart hops and an exhilarating 7.5% alcohol content. The honey-sweet strong beer is a treat for all honey fans and tastes great with hearty dishes and desserts.
