The Heller-Bräu is probably the best-known brewery in the World Heritage city of Bamberg and is widely known on the national and international beer scene as the Schlenkerla brewery. One creation from the traditional brewery in particular was responsible for worldwide fame: the Aecht Schlenkerla smoked beer . As one of the last breweries at all, the Heller-Bräu still kilns its grain in beech wood smoke according to the traditional method. This traditional method gives the malt its strong smoky aroma, which fans of the brewery like to describe as a smoked ham flavor.
