Zwickelbier, affectionately shortened to Zwickl in Bavaria, is a beautiful and delicious part of German beer history. Traditionally, the brewer taps the so-called Zwickel directly from the barrel with a Zwickel tap in order to test whether the beer is ready during maturation. At some point, breweries started sharing this delicacy, which was actually reserved for the team, with their customers and bottling completely fresh Zwickelbier. Today, many traditional breweries have such a Zwickel in their range, including the Private Landbrauerei Schönram.
Her Zwickl flows into the glass in slightly cloudy old gold and is decorated with an ivory foam crown. A fresh nose of hops, orange peel and toffee invites you to drink. This reveals a grippy body with gently roasted grains, creamy caramel, notes of orange zest and stone fruit, herbs and a hoppy tartness. The aroma is balanced, sweet, subtly bitter and wonderfully round.
The classic cellar beer is now available in handy bottles with a capacity of 0.33 liters. The brew is neither filtered nor pasteurized and arrives at you natural and with a slight cloudiness. In order to fully enjoy all the ingredients, you can give the bottle a quick swirl like you would when pouring a Hefeweizen - this will loosen the sediment and distribute the good taste throughout the entire beer.
