In addition to their range of finest beers, the Störtebeker brewery from Stralsund also has a small selection of fine spirits. One of the most popular delicacies among high-percentage spirits is undoubtedly single malt whiskey.
The specialty is made on the island of Rügen. The basis are exquisite brewing and special malts, which ensure the balanced taste. After distillation, the whiskey is filled into wooden casks. The team chose oak barrels for storage over several years. These come from France and are particularly aromatic. As it matures, the warm honey color and complex flavor of the distillate deepens. The aroma gains in earthy wood notes and hints of coconut and vanilla. In order to add the culinary crown to the taste profile, the whiskey is transferred to another cask after two years: the so-called Coopers Reserve cask is made of two types of wood and delivers a completely different spectrum of aromas. The combination of American and French oak is roasted over oak log fires and set on fire for a few moments to extract maximum flavor from the wood. This last step takes a year and brings creamy honey notes and a soft oak bouquet to the whiskey.
