Especially in winter, the days when the sun shines from the sky are numbered. Depending on where you live, you hardly get any hours of sunshine between November and April and if you don’t supplement with vitamin D, you’ll have a lot to catch up on in spring. As Munich residents, the brewers at Munich Brew Mafia are pretty spoiled when it comes to sunlight, but they think of everyone else with compassion and have developed a beer that provides some delicious moments of sunshine, even when the sky is cloudy and gray.
Contrary to our expectations, your brew does not flow into the glass in a sunny gold, but in the dark black of the darkest night. This is probably because their work is a powerful imperial stout. The 8.5% strong delicacy is made with select roasted malts and refined with Perle hops. The brew is called Ain’t No Sunshine and, with its complex character, roasted aromas and plump grains, ensures a sunny disposition even when it’s deep winter outside.
With its dark aroma, Ain’t No Sunshine is the perfect companion for hearty, expressive dishes. Intense cheeses such as Gorgonzola, mountain or goat cheese go particularly well with it. Our tip: Hand-scraped cheese spaetzle with a mixture of Gruyère and mountain cheese, served with a generous portion of homemade fried onions.
