Duke is a very special beer in the Freiburg brewing collective range. It was brewed in honor of the magnificent Freiburg Cathedral. The Gothic building is Freiburg's landmark and is celebrating its 900th anniversary in 2020. For this festive anniversary, the Freiburg brewing collective team has come up with a special festival beer with which you can toast the Cathedral of Our Lady.
The inspiration was the Black Forest, which is located not far from Freiburg on the border with France. Majestic trees provide wonderful shade there in summer, cool, fresh forest air blows over the moss-covered ground and at night it is so gloomy there that it is better not to go on a night hike without a flashlight.
The beer that resulted from the efforts is also dark, fresh and spicy. Duke is a dark IPA that flows into the glass in a rich deep brown. A creamy, hazelnut-brown foam crowns the beer and exudes a fine scent made up of roasted malt and fruity hops. The initial taste presents a strong body with a delicately balanced taste. A fresh bouquet of hops blooms on a soft bed of malt. On the tongue, this symbiosis manifests itself in the aromas of soft caramel, roasted malt, spicy pine resin and floral hops. A crisp bitterness skilfully rounds off the drinking experience.
We raise our glasses to the Freiburg Cathedral and drink a cool Duke to another 900 years!
