If you pour the beer into a glass before drinking, the pleasure begins long before the first sip. Let’s take the lager from the Reckendorfer Schlossbrauerei as an example. The brew comes in a brown euro bottle with a crown cap. With a suitable bottle opener , we lever the cap off the bottle neck in one flowing hand movement. A soft pop sounds and heralds the pleasure. The first delicate aromas fill the air and reach their zenith when the brew arrives in the glass. While our eyes delight in the gleaming light gold and the stately crown of fine-pored, white foam, the nose sniffs an enticing bouquet of pithy bread, aromatic blossom honey, ripe apples and citrus-fresh hops.
After addressing auditory, olfactory and visual perceptions, our favorite part follows: the taste test. The first sip and all subsequent sips are composed of notes of creamy caramel, sun-ripened grains, delicately toasted malt, stone-oven bread and a hint of lemony hops. A subtle tartness and the gentle bitterness harmoniously round off the play of aromas.
