The name giver and patron of this beer is Emperor Heinrich, who ruled the Roman-German Empire together with his wife Kunigunde. In his function as emperor, he founded the diocese of Bamberg and is accordingly revered in the Bamberg area. Because he was said to have performed numerous miracles and miraculous actions, Heinrich was declared a saint after his death. The imperial couple continues to fascinate people to this day.
The supporters of Heinrich and Kunigunde also include the brewers of the Reckendorfer Schlossbrauerei not far from Bamberg. In honor of the ruler from the Middle Ages, the team has come up with a fine bock beer: The Reckendorfer Henrici-Bock is a seasonal specialty and is only brewed in autumn and winter. The sumptuous strong beer brings a whopping 7.0% alcohol content into the glass and combines an intense malt abundance with an elegant hop bitterness and a fine tartness.
In the glass, Heinrich’s beery homage appears in a deep amber tone. A stately crown of airy foam sits enthroned on the crystal-clear body, filling the air with an irresistible scent: notes of freshly baked bread combine with roasted malt, caramel, hints of grass and herbs to create a heavenly aroma. The unavoidable taste test delights with an equally rich malt composition. Crispy bread crust meets toffee, sun-ripened corn and candied dark fruits on the palate. The hops give the beer herbal and grassy notes as well as a crisp bitterness.
