The connection between this beer and its name is a mystery to us. The fine India Pale Ale from Coronado was clearly not brewed by idiots: the team from sunny San Diego packed their 8.5% strong IPA to the brim with the most wonderful hop varieties. When choosing the varieties, the brewers stuck to the big Cs. Cascade, Columbus, Centennial and Chinook give the beer a good hop smack, the Nugget variety reinforces the effect with tropical power and a bitterness that will knock even die-hard IPA fans off their feet.
The crisp West Coast IPA is a densely cloudy fawn in the glass and crowned with a small amount of airy, ivory-colored foam. A scent of freshly cooked, still warm apricot jam fills the air and combines with exotic fruit and hints of pine resin to create a hoppy seduction. The hop festival continues in the first drink: the concentrated power of the American hop varieties rolls over your palate like an avalanche and punches your taste buds with a combination of juicy fruit, spicy resin and an overwhelming bitterness. Coronado's Idiot IPA is surprisingly dry and scores with a viscous and velvety soft texture. The creamy pleasure is pure hops - just the right beer for the hopheads among you!
