Yadkin is the name of a river that winds through a good portion of North Carolina. At almost 350 kilometers, it is the longest river in this American state. Its name comes from the Siouan language, but the translation is unknown. Dams regulate the amount of water and are used to generate electricity, but the main benefit of the river lies in its wide range of leisure activities: you can go fishing and hiking on the banks lined with trees and bushes, and you can go swimming in the river or canoeing.
The New Sarum brewery hails from North Carolina and honors its homeland’s most magnificent river with a beer. Their Yadkin River Lager is a pilsner made with German brewing and American raw materials. Some of the ingredients grow right outside the gates of the brewery, for example the grain. The Carolina Malt House variety from the region was used. Combined with corn flakes, barley and a German lager yeast, this results in a crisp pilsner that flows into the glass in a delicate yellow gold.
New Sarum’s Yadkin River Lager combines a lean body with smooth, sweet malt. Spicy, fruity and floral hints of hops harmoniously balance the grain, while the tangy carbon dioxide provides a certain freshness. Good for a little beer thirst in between!
