The Twisted Thistle IPA is the flagship of the range from British brewery Belhaven. The brewery looks back on 300 years of brewing history and has a wide selection of very different beers. In addition to down-to-earth, traditional beers, there are also new, creative and experimental brews on the shelf. As an American-style IPA, Twisted Thistle definitely belongs to the latter category.
Twisted Thistle is a smooth IPA brewed with Challenger, Cascade and Hersbrucker aroma hops. In the hop trio, each hop variety has its own task: Challenger provides the wonderful hop bitterness and a fresh, dry herbal note, the Hersbruck hops give the beer a touch of spice and a juicy fruitiness and Cascade conjures up the fruity freshness of pink grapefruit and a playful, floral one Note in the beer. These hops are a true dream team!
The beer flows into the glass in a chestnut-brown amber tone and shows wonderful copper-colored reflections when the light hits it. The fine foam head is hazelnut brown and creamy. When you open the bottle, Twisted Thistle exudes the fruity aroma of juicy pink grapefruit, which mixes with floral hops and a range of other citrus fruits on the nose. The initial taste reveals a sweet malt base that evokes associations with freshly baked cookies. The gentle malt is topped with an exuberant hop load that boasts robust bitterness, spicy herbal notes and a wave of tangy citrus.
It’s not for nothing that Belhaven’s flagship IPA is one of the brewery’s most popular beers. Delicious!
