The term "fire and flame" refers to someone who feels exuberant enthusiasm about something. The expression plays on the image of sparks flying and igniting enthusiasm, and is used primarily when a person suddenly or unexpectedly develops an excessive interest.
It should come as no surprise that De Molen Brewery is passionate about beer. The reason why their classic IPA is called Vuur & Vlam (Fire and Flame in Dutch) is more surprising. A while ago, one of the brewmasters had a chaotic day and mixed up not only the type of hops but also the amount of green gold when implementing the recipe for one of the regular brews. When he realized his mistake, the brewer briefly fell into a state of complete panic because the entire batch of beer had to be thrown away. When the team tasted the end result, however, they were immediately on fire: The unlucky guy had completely unplanned and accidentally created a brew that was so delicious that it was immediately added to the core range.
