Christmas 2020, like the rest of the year, will likely go down in history. The new decade started with a bang that shook the whole world: A pandemic is sweeping through all corners of the world and is causing the greatest state of emergency that has ever occurred. For many, it is uncertain how Christmas will be.
In order to add a little sparkle and joy to Advent and the approaching Christmas season, a German-Irish delegation has come together: Our Bamberg team from St. ERHARD and the brewers from the Brehon Brewhouse from Carrickmacross. The aim of the collaboration was a festive beer, like Christmas in liquid form, and the creative brewers succeeded in doing that. Irish Ember is a Christmas Porter with a hefty 7.7% alcohol content, which warms you from the inside out and puts you in a good mood under the Christmas tree.
The substantial beer delights with a complex palette of intense taste nuances and goes perfectly with the Christmas menu. If we can make a recommendation, then we would be serving a warm Irish Ember for this year’s festivities. It is accompanied by a winter salad with lamb’s lettuce, caramelized walnuts, pomegranate seeds, red grapes, blue cheese and a warm potato vinaigrette. For the main course, a classic roast of dumplings and cabbage and, as the crowning glory, a chocolate brownie with cinnamon cream and hot red wine cherries. Thanks to its full-bodied aromas, the Irish Ember is the perfect accompaniment to hearty and heavy, sweet dishes.
